DO SOMETHING

The people of Colorado know all too well the devastation and heartbreak felt by the Dayton and El Paso communities. We can do something.

Americans are ready for action. The U.S. House has acted. President Trump and Senate Republicans need to act and reform our gun laws to make our communities safer. Along with 213 of my House colleagues, I wrote to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell demanding the Senate immediately pass H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, and H.R. 1112, the Enhanced Background Checks Act. Both of these bipartisan bills were passed by the House in February of this year and have been blocked for a vote by Senator McConnell for more than 160 days.

Additionally, I want to reinstate the federal ban on assault weapons, limit ammunition purchases, expand Extreme Risk Protection Order laws, and allow federal research into the causes and effects of gun violence.

As have many of you, I have participated in sit-ins, marched, yelled, and cried but we still have not seen any action to make our communities safer. If empty promises continue to be made, the American people will have the opportunity to decide how to move our country forward.
