UPDATE ON KEY PRIORITIES

Transparency in Healthcare Pricing
The Trump administration recently issued two rules related to price transparency in healthcare, including requiring hospitals to display out-of-pocket information for 300 common shoppable services. Both rules are positive for consumers and will help ensure families can make informed decisions about what’s best for their health and their pocketbook. I plan to continue pushing my Transparency in All Health Care Pricing Act with Rep. Gallagher (R-WI) to ensure these price transparency efforts become law.

Space Weather – I’m re-introducing bipartisan legislation aimed at expanding the scientific understanding and forecasting of space weather, the naturally occurring variations in the space environment between the sun and the Earth. Space weather can cause great damage to our infrastructure and our economy, and the Promoting Research and Observations of Space Weather to Improve the Forecasting of Tomorrow (PROSWIFT) Act will help ensure our academic, international, and commercial partners are working hand in hand to improve space weather forecasting.

Reforming Federal Cannabis Laws – The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act passed the House Judiciary Committee this week, marking another major milestone in the effort to modernize federal cannabis policies.

Funding the Government – This week, the House and Senate passed a short-term funding measure to avoid a harmful government shutdown. Key programs remain authorized and funded such as Community Health Centers and other critical public health programs. Additional funding was included for an accurate 2020 Census, such as funding for Mobile Questionnaire Assistance Centers.

DEFENDING OUR DEMOCRACY

This week, we heard from nine witnesses in the impeachment inquiry, many of whom are respected, dedicated and nonpartisan career servants. With each testimony, the evidence continued to mount with every witness confirming a key part of President Trump’s pressure campaign against Ukraine for his own political benefit. This includes testimony from President Trump’s current Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland who confirmed there was a quid pro quo, directed by Trump himself, and with the knowledge of several of Trump’s senior officials. The testimony, to date, eviscerates virtually every defense put forward by the President and his Republican allies, confirms the whistleblower complaint, and leaves the facts clear and uncontested.

GOOD NEWS REPORT

I always say “’Tis a privilege to represent the people of the 7th Congressional District and Colorado.” Here’s why:

Congrats to the Colorado Air and Space Port for their new partnership with Spaceport Cornwall!

Further proof that we live in the best place on Earth, a new report showed Colorado was home to the top five most livable and affordable mid-size cities in the U.S., three of which are in the 7th Congressional District!

This year, a student-led referendum at Standley Lake High School paved the way for the school to hold its first gender-neutral homecoming, joining four other JeffCo high schools in doing so.

There are so many exciting things happening in the 7th District. Look for our next newsletter for more highlights in your neighborhood.
