CBO SCORE: GOP HEALTHCARE BILL A DISASTER
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office released its report on the Republican Healthcare bill this week. It reports this bill will cause 23 million Americans to lose their healthcare coverage. In addition to covering fewer people, it reduces essential health benefits so Coloradans will face higher out-of-pocket costs, and even allows insurance companies to discriminate against those with pre-existing conditions. The only group this bill seems to help are millionaires who would get a huge tax break.

The CBO score reaffirms what we already knew: this bill is bad for Colorado, the entire country and shows why we need to go back to the drawing board. We should be working on ways to improve care and lower premiums, not cut care and give tax breaks to the super-wealthy.

SUPPORT GROWS FOR MY MARIJUANA BUSINESS BANKING BILL
I’m pleased to report that bipartisan support continues to grow for my marijuana business banking bill called the SAFE Banking Act. We now have 37 cosponsors, up from 28 when I introduced the legislation this year. Due to the conflict between state and federal law, legal and licensed marijuana businesses are shut out of the banking system and forced to deal in cash.

First and foremost this is an issue of public safety. Large sums of cash create targets for criminals. Not only are the proprietors at risk, but the employees and customers are also at risk of serious and violent crime.

My bill would allow small businesses to access banking services like any other business. This is an issue of public safety and fairness.
