U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) is pleased to announce that Aurora Public Schools will receive $207,597 from the United States Department of Education to fund the Readiness and Emergency Management For Schools Program (REMS).
Aurora Public Schools will receive the grant as part of the Department of Education’s effort to strengthen and improve emergency response and crisis management plans in local schools. The REMS grant will help the Aurora Public Schools strengthen all four phases of its emergency management plan: Prevention-Mitigation, Preparedness, Response and Recovery. The school district will also commit to developing a written plan designed to prepare for a possible infectious disease outbreak, such as an influenza pandemic.
“I applaud the efforts of the Department of Education to help our public schools improve their emergency management plans. This grant will allow Aurora Public Schools to strengthen their emergency plans and procedures and be more prepared for a potential crisis. Furthermore, this funding will join Aurora ’s schools, law enforcement and first responders to enhance our security so our children can learn in the safe environment they deserve” stated Perlmutter.
