Last week, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter voted to strengthen
protections for individuals' personal information by supporting the bipartisan
amendment introduced by Reps. Amash and Conyers.
The amendment would have limited the National Security
Agency's ability to collect and maintain private call records on customers in
the U.S.
"We should work together to ensure we have the most
responsible national security measures in place and the ability to efficiently
investigate potential terrorist threats in a timely way," said Perlmutter.
"However, we also need to protect against overreaching into innocent
Americans' personal and private information not related to an authorized
investigation."
Congressman Perlmutter looks forward to continuing the
dialogue and examining proposals to ensure the protection of privacy and civil
liberties.
