"Ryan
budget uses imaginary math to reach imaginary balance"
Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter voted for a responsible budget plan that
advances the values of fairness, opportunity and equality for all
Americans. Unfortunately Tea Party House Republicans lead by Rep.
Paul Ryan pushed through a budget forcing our seniors, families, and children
to bear the costs of harmful cuts now and the into the future.
Perlmutter
said: "The Ryan Tea Party budget uses imaginary math to reach
imaginary balance. Like most Americans, I want Democrats and Republicans
to work together for solutions to reduce the deficit – but not on the backs of
seniors and hardworking Americans. The Ryan, Tea Party spending plan gives billionaires more tax breaks, paid for by raising
taxes on regular people and getting two-thirds of its cuts from the working
poor and middle class. I cannot support a spending plan that guts Medicare,
critical infrastructure and education, and is harmful to our nation’s long-term
economic security and prosperity.
“I
support an alternative and balanced approach to paying down our deficit by
creating jobs, growing the economy, strengthening the middle class, and
responsibly reducing the deficit. We need to work in a bipartisan way to make
tough decisions focusing on cutting expenses and raising revenue to reduce our
unsustainable deficits.”
The
alternative budget presented by House Democrats puts 1.2 million more people
to work this year than the GOP budget, makes important investments in
education, energy, research, and infrastructure, and keeps our promises to
seniors.
