Today Rep. Ed Perlmutter announced that funding requests for key 7th Congressional District and Colorado projects are included in the House of Representatives Labor/Health and Human Services/Education appropriations bill, HR 3043. The bill, once passed by the House of Representatives will then move to the Senate for debate and passage.
Under the bill, the Community College of Aurora will receive $350,000 for their Critical Incident Theatre (CIT). The CIT is a command center to train students, first responders, homeland security and nonprofit agencies in disaster command and response. The CIT will utilize state of the art technology and house self-contained incident trailers/vehicles to create real-life disaster scenarios for the trainees. This is the first program of its kind in the , and it will serve as a model for interagency collaboration and workforce training and development.
“The CIT will provide offer our communities the opportunity serve as a resource for the entire nation on homeland security preparedness and response,” said Perlmutter.
Additionally, Jefferson County Public Schools will receive $300,000 for technology and training programs to improve student test scores.
Furthermore, Jefferson County will receive $100,000 for infrastructure improvements to its Children, Youth, and Families Division for improvement of the ability to prevent child abuse incidents in Jefferson County . This money will be used to develop alternative responses to reports of minor child abuse and track the effectiveness of this service delivery system. These responses will be focused on early intervention and diversion from the Child Welfare system.
