U.S. Reps. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07); Diana DeGette (CO-01); Mark Udall (CO-02); Tom Tancredo (CO-06) Marilyn Musgrave (CO-04) and U.S. Senators Wayne Allard and Ken Salazar are pleased to announce that the Regional Transportation District (RTD) will receive $1.1 million from the U.S. Dept. of Transportation to replace outdated buses in the Denver metro area.
RTD will receive the grant as part of the DOT’s annual grant awards to fund improvements to local transportation infrastructure.
Congressman Ed Perlmutter (CO-07), “I am in full support of funding mass public transit, especially the much needed replacement of outdated and inefficient equipment,” Perlmutter stated. “This grant will improve public transportation and will benefit RTD efficiency as well as passenger safety and comfort.
Senator Wayne Allard, “Public transit is a critical part of a comprehensive, modern transportation infrastructure and can help cities battle congestion and reduce pollution,” said Allard. “This grant will strengthen Denver ’s multi-modal transit system by allowing them to upgrade part of their bus fleet. Modern buses will help ensure that all metro-Denver residents, particularly those with special needs, have access to reliable public transportation.”
Senator Ken Salazar, “I am thrilled that we were able to secure this money for the regional transit district in Denver . Our transportation infrastructure is critical to the vitality of our state. Updating and retrofitting our transportation infrastructure is important to our state’s economy, new energy future and natural heritage.”
Congresswoman Diana DeGette (CO-01), “As Denver becomes a national model for an efficient and cost-effective public transportation system, a strong RTD is an essential component,” said Rep. DeGette. “This federal funding will not only be used to help RTD modernize its equipment, but will give consumers more alternatives for getting around town. It also saves money, relieves traffic congestion, reduces fuel consumption, and improves air quality that contributes to an effective transportation system.”
Congressman Mark Udall (CO-02), “Since I came to Congress, I have been an advocate for an updated and more efficient mass public transit system for Colorado ,” said Udall. “When we look at the transportation challenges in our state, we must think in terms of moving people not just moving cars. This grant will help RTD be more efficient and more attractive to commuters and visitors. This is a big win for Colorado .”
