"Whether it's at the grocery store, or going door-to-door, my constituents are telling me small businesses need capital."
Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) praised the President for signing a bill to help small business startups with access to raising capital. The President signed the Jumpstarting Our Business Startups (JOBS) Act allowing small businesses to raise funds online through the internet and social media.
Perlmutter, who sits on the House Financial Services Committee, co-sponsored the bill in the House and worked in committee to include important consumer protections to prevent fraud, deceit or attempts to mislead investors.
Perlmutter stated, "Whether it's at the grocery store, or going door-to-door, my constituents are telling me small businesses need capital. With important investor protections and oversight in place, this bill encourages innovation and growth for small businesses so money can be raised and investments can be made by a broader group of people in smaller amounts."
The bill passed the House on March 8, 2012 with an overwhelming bipartisan majority of support 390-23.
