"Their determination, courage and resilience is a lesson for all of us that we can do anything if we set our minds to it."
Next week, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) will travel to Iwo Jima with Colorado-based The Greatest Generations Foundation (TGGF)and a group of WWII Veterans and college students from The Ohio State University. Perlmutter, along with U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley (Iowa) will travel with the group March 9 - 15, visiting Iwo Jima on March 14.
TGGF is sponsoring the program to return the group of veterans to the battlefields where they fought in the Pacific and to commemorate the 67th Anniversary of the historic battle of Iwo Jima where many of them served.
Two years ago, Perlmutter helped 12 Colorado WWII Veterans and members of The Greatest Generations Foundation reach Iwo Jima for the 65th Anniversary after they were stranded in Okinawa when their plane to Iwo Jima was suddenly cancelled. Click Here to read more about that historic journey.
"The opportunity to travel with these veterans as they return one final time to the battlefields where they served is an honor. They are heroes who fought for our freedom and the values sacred to all Americans. Their determination, courage and resilience is a lesson for all of us that we can do anything if we set our minds to it. I know this will be a life-changing program for all of us to experience," said Perlmutter.
Additionally, a group of students from The Ohio State University will accompany each veteran on the trip as part of TGGF's program to preserve the legacies of those veterans who fought for our freedom by connecting them with the future generations of leaders in America.
TGGF is a Colorado based non-profit, non-partisan organization working to return veterans to the battlefields where they served to honor their selfless service and dedication to our country and to educate generations about the history of "war time sacrifice and the noble accomplishments of brave men and women..." and to "make sure that the dedication and bravery of these veterans is never forgotten, nor that the value of their deeds be allowed to disappear into history."
