TDA and CSM receive $750,000 from the Department of Energy
July 16, 2007
Congressman Ed Perlmutter congratulates TDA Research, Inc. (TDA) and Colorado School of Mines (CSM) on a $750,000 grant as part of Phase II of the Small Business Technology Transfer program (STTR) under the Department of Energy. TDA and CSM are one of 15 small businesses in the nation to receive the grant.
With the grant, the group will develop a new material for cost effective production of hydrogen used in efficient, non-polluting power generation.
"Promoting energy efficiency is a healthy and smart initiative," said Perlmutter. "I am extremely thrilled TDA and CSM have the opportunity to continue not only Colorado’s research for energy efficiency, but the nation’s energy independence as well. Quite simply, this is good for national security, good for the climate and good for jobs."
TDA Research, Inc. is a private research and development company based in Wheat Ridge, CO which develops military and aerospace components and new materials such as carbons and polymers.
STTR, a three-phase program, increases the commercialization of federally funded research and development by small businesses. Phase I, already received by TDA and CSM, is a one year process that awards up to $100,000 for the exploration of scientific and commercial feasibility of an idea. Phase II is a two year process that awards up to an additional $750,000 to expand on the results of Phase I.
"Phase II is where the research and development will be conducted on this project, and I am eager to see the results," said Perlmutter. "This research is the next step to incorporating smart, clean, new energy technologies throughout every facet of our lives."
