Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) participated in a press conference with Rep. Rahm Emanuel, Rep. Diana DeGette and other new Democratic members of the House of Representatives reacting to the President’s Veto of S. 5, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007:

Following is a statement from Congressman Perlmutter regarding this veto.

“I am disappointed that the President did not live up to his self-proclaimed compassionate conservative label and vetoed this stem cell bill yet again.

This bill holds promise for millions of people across the country – including my own daughter. This is the kind of research that could help my daughter not to have any more seizures. It offers the possibility and promise to every father, mother, brother and sister who wants to have hope for their friends and their family.

While a majority of Americans, and indeed a majority of this new Congress, support this measure, we still must try to gain a veto-proof majority. I would urge each and every American seeking the hope and promise that this critical research can provide to contact their members of Congress and urge them to override the President’s veto.”
