Congressman Ed Perlmutter will unveil his Green Office Initiative on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 10 a.m. at a press conference at his district office in Lakewood.
The Congressman’s Green Office Initiative is a collaboration between public policy, research and local business communities to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency. There are three parts to the Congressman’s Green Office Initiative that he will outline and expand upon at the press conference:
- 1) Becoming Green: The Congressman’s Congressional Office is carbon neutral. The Congressman is personally purchasing $830 of wind energy credits to offset his office’s greenhouse gas emissions. The wind credits are from a wind farm in Lamar, CO . (NREL helped determine the office’s “carbon footprint”).
- 2) Working Green: The building in which the 7th Congressional District Office is located is seeking LEED-EB Silver (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design-Existing Building) certification and will have photovoltaic panels placed on the roof to provide 2-3% of the building’s energy needs. The building which was designed by The RMH Group and owned by Propp Realty, is a model of energy efficiency.
- 3) Promoting Green: As chair of the Energy Efficiency Task Force in the House Financial Services Committee, the Congressman will outline proposals he is sponsoring and promoting in Congress to promote energy efficiency standards.
In addition, representatives from the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL), The RMH Group, and Propp Realty will speak at the press conference about their involvement and contributions to the Congressman’s Green Office Initiative.
