On Friday, May 4, 2007, Congressman Ed Perlmutter presented awards to the winners of the 26th Congressional Arts Competition, “An Artistic Discovery,” to high school students from throughout the 7th Congressional District. The awards ceremony was held at Exempla Lutheran Medical Center, where the artwork is on display through May 18, 2007.
Listed below are the students who won awards:
1st Place: Heather Parr, Sophomore, Bear Creek High School, “Nature’s Silhouette”
2nd Place: Nicole Conlan, Lakewood High School, “OR4 (Guatemala)”
3rd Place: Robin Ackerman, Bear Creek High School, “Devil Ducks in Space”
Honorable Mention: Caitlin Reed, Jefferson County Open High, “Le Whomp”
Honorable Mention: Jeff Goldstein, “Golden High School, “Mosaic Elephant”
The winning artwork by Heather Parr will be sent to Washington, D.C. to represent the 7th Congressional District and will be displayed with other artwork from throughout the nation in an exhibit in the U.S. Capitol.
“I am so proud of all of these students,” said Congressman Perlmutter. “The gifts they shared with us are truly amazing and inspirational. I look forward to seeing Heather’s work everyday when I am in Washington as I walk back and forth to the Capitol. Congratulations to Heather and all the other students for their incredible achievements and talent.”
In addition to the above awards, the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design (RMCAD) recognized local high school seniors who competed with awards and presented a scholarship to the winner. The following is a list of the awards presented by RMCAD:
1st Place: Teresa Romansky, Wheat Ridge High, “Oliver’s Smile”
Runner Up: Weston Polivka, Wheat Ridge High, “Black Sand Beach”
Runner Up: Hunter Wahl, Ralston Valley High, “Over 15”
More than 60 high school students from the 7th Congressional District entered artwork in this year’s competition. Schools with participants included: Lakewood High, Wheat Ridge High, Jeffco Open High, Golden High, Alameda High and Ralston Valley High.
