Washington, D.C. – Today, the entire Colorado Congressional Delegation released a joint statement celebrating this year’s U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, which traveled from Western Colorado to Washington, D.C. in November, ahead of the lighting ceremony in our nation’s capital:

“From the spread of the coronavirus to the economic downturn, this year has challenged us all. But through these challenges, people from across Colorado have come together to support one another and bring hope to their communities. Coloradans have always been resilient, and it is fitting that when our country most needs a reminder of holiday joy that our state has the honor of providing the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree.

“The Capitol Christmas Tree is a wonderful American tradition that unites us as we celebrate the holiday season. It is a symbol of the community and hope we can still find during difficult times. After Colorado’s most devastating wildfire season on record, it also serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting our public lands and the communities that rely on them.

“Congratulations to Colorado’s Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, & Gunnison National Forests for providing a spectacular Engelmann spruce. On behalf of Colorado, it is our honor to share a piece of our beautiful state with the country.”

After being harvested from the Uncompahgre National Forest near Montrose, Colorado on November 5, the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree traveled through Colorado and across the country, arriving in Washington, D.C. on November 20. The tree’s ornaments, created by Coloradans, traveled to Washington with the tree.

Today’s lighting of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will be livestreamed HERE at 3:00 PM MT/5:00 PM ET.
