Congressman Perlmutter Participates in “Day of Action” at the Felix Sparks Post Office Building
Lakewood, Colo.- On Tuesday, August 18, 2020, Congressman Perlmutter participated in a ‘Postal Service Day of Action’ at the Felix Sparks Post Office building in Lakewood, Colorado to speak out against the Trump Administrations attempt to sabotage mail service.
“The United States Postal Service has been an institution and a pillar of our democracy since our country was founded. The post office provides a critical service to all of us, particularly seniors, Veterans and people with chronic illnesses who receive their medication in the mail. It’s also a critical service for businesses,” said Perlmutter.
Recently, Postmaster General DeJoy upended the postal service by slowing delivery, removing high-speed letter sorters and warning election officials that mail-in ballots will no longer automatically be moved as priority mail. In addition, the USPS has begun reducing post office operating hours across several states, cut overtime for postal workers and removed some of their letter collection boxes.
“Regardless of today’s announcement by Postmaster DeJoy to delay any postal changes, I plan to go back to Washington, D.C. at the end of this week to pass the Delivery for America Act, in order to protect the critical service the post office provides our country.” Said Congressman Perlmutter.
