Lakewood based Native American Technologies Receive Department of Energy Grant

Today, US Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) congratulates Native American Technologies Inc. on receiving an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant for more than $700,000 from the Department of Energy for a tall wind turbine prototype project.

“I congratulate Native American Technologies in Lakewood on receiving a Recovery Act grant for a wind turbine prototype project. This grant award will allow them to hire additional staff and continue their work on changing the way we power this nation. The Recovery Act is all about jobs and creating a 21st Century workforce and infrastructure,” said Perlmutter.

“I met Dr. Jones at one of my Government in the Grocery events this summer and learned about their company and the great work they do. Small businesses are the economic engine driving this nation, and Native Technologies is a perfect example of the American entrepreneurial spirit. This grant will allow them to continue work on potentially the largest wind towers ever built on land in the United States.”

On February 17, President Obama signed into law H.R. 1, the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act, at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.

These funds give us the ability to increase our staff by about 30%, and a Colorado company will be leading the world in research and development of very large towers to produce lower cost and more reliable wind energy. This research is important because conventional towers cannot be made any taller than 100 meters because they are too big to be shipped on U.S. highways. The UltraTall Tower is designed for heights up to 250 meters,” stated Dr. Jerry Jones, Chief Scientist for Native American Technologies.

Overall, in the 7th Congressional District, ARRA is directly responsible for impacting more than 1,600 jobs in the education, transportation infrastructure, law enforcement, sustainable design, renewable energy and youth summer program sectors.
