Today, the Veterans’ Administration purchased a majority of the land it will need to begin construction of its new medical facility to be located on the Fitzsimons campus in Aurora.
Below is a statement from Congressman Ed Perlmutter, who represents Colorado’s 7th Congressional District, which includes the Fitzsimons Campus in Aurora.
“The new Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) will be a state of the art facility with the capabilities of meeting our veterans’ needs. The Fitzsimmons campus in Aurora will be the hub of health care in Colorado, and this project continues the positive relationship with the University of Colorado by moving to this site.
This VAMC will be unique in that it will contain a 30 bed spinal cord injury unit in order to meet the primary care demands of our veterans. Additionally, this VAMC will be a regional facility and serve veterans from Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, as well as Colorado. The facility is truly a beacon in the West.
I am pleased to be in a position to help the VAMC complete its move by co-sponsoring legislation with Rep. John Salazar to authorize $ 523 million to build the new facility. In light of recent events at Walter Reed hospital, this project is critical to ensuring our veterans receive the highest quality medical care in this new facility. I am committed to making sure we obtain full funding for building and finalizing this project and look forward to working with my colleagues in the House of Representatives and the Administration on the completion of this vital service to our nation.”
