Reps. Perlmutter & Polis Urge Chairman Obey to Continue to Help Nuclear Facility Workers

Today, Representatives Perlmutter (CO-07) and Polis (CO-02) participated in a colloquy on the House floor with Appropriations Committee Chairman Obey about the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program. The colloquy urged the Appropriations Committee to continue to work with the U.S. Department of Labor and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to ensure nuclear facility workers, like those who worked at Rocky Flats, receive fair and adequate compensation for their work related illnesses.

Rep. Polis is the sponsor and Rep. Perlmutter is an original co-sponsor of HR 1828 - Charlie Wolf Nuclear Workers Compensation Act. The legislation amends and expands the Energy Employee Occupational Illness Program Act and Radiation Exposure Compensation Act for individuals who were exposed to radiation from nuclear weapons facilities or in the processing of uranium and helps to speed up and improve the adjudication of compensation claims for their work related health complications.
