Today, in advance of Independence Day, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter voted to support two key benefits for our nation’s veterans.

Perlmutter supported the Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2009 (S. 407) which increases the rates of veterans’ disability compensation to the same percentage as the increase in benefits provided under title II of the Social Security Act.

“On the battlefield, the military pledges to leave no soldier behind. As a nation, we must fulfill our promise so when they return home, we leave no veteran behind,” said Perlmutter.

Furthermore, Perlmutter voted to expand VA health care services for the 1.8 million women who bravely served their country especially those serving in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

· The Women Veterans Health Care Improvement Act (H.R. 1211) will expand and improve VA health care services for the 1.8 million women who have bravely served their country. It calls for:

ü a study of barriers to women veterans seeking health care,

ü assessment of women’s health care programs,

ü medical care for newborn children of women veterans,

ü enhancement of VA sexual trauma programs,

ü enhancement of PTSD treatment for women,

ü establishment of a pilot program for child care services, and

ü the addition of recently separated women veterans to serve on advisory committees.

Perlmutter stated, “We must continue to fight to provide the highest quality healthcare for all of our men and women who fought for our country.”
