Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) called for hearings to examine the process Chrysler and GM corporations used to evaluate which dealerships should be rejected and which should remain open.

Citing concern that the criteria used for determining the closure of the franchises was not consistent or readily available, Perlmutter sent a letter to House Financial Services Committee Chairman, Barney Frank and House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers urging them to hold a joint hearing to examine the potential impacts of the Chrylser and GM corporate restructuring plans and explore ways to cushion the blow for the affected dealerships, suppliers and pensioners.

In the letter, Perlmutter stated, “Hearing from the companies, dealers and other affected parties will help bring to light the areas where the path forward can be improved and provide an essential dialogue to ensure the restructuring of these companies is done in the best manner for our nation and the taxpayers.”

Today, terminations for 789 Chrysler franchisees throughout the nation, including 14 in Colorado, went into effect today.
