Rep. Perlmutter Applauds Nutrition Assistance for ColoradoMarch 18, 2009 Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) is proud to announce the distribution of nutrition assistance funding for seniors through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Colorado will receive $1,265,254 for nutrition programs throughout the state. “During these tough economic times, Americans are struggling to pay their bills and provide the basic necessities for their families. All too often our seniors suffer the most. Food prices are rising, and Coloradans need the relief these programs will provide. The funds will go toward nutrition programs and meals for our poor and homebound elderly community. This money provides a lifeline for many of our senior citizens who need help the most,” stated Perlmutter. The Older Americans Act (OAA) provides meal and nutrition services to seniors. Elderly nutrition programs have been working towards supporting seniors who suffer from dietary inadequacy and need home-delivered meals. The funds will also help protect jobs to the people of Colorado who work in these programs. ### |
