Today, U.S. Rep Ed Perlmutter released the following statement in recognition of Black History Month:

“Celebrating Black History month is particularly important in this historic year. Millions of Americans voted to make Barack Obama the first African American President of the . This week, Eric H. Holder Jr. was sworn in as the first African American Attorney General. In Colorado, Speaker of the House Terrance Carroll joined Senate President Peter Groff, and for the first time in history, two African-Americans lead both chambers of a state legislature. This month is a time to honor all of the cultural, political and social achievements and contributions made by African-Americans that have enriched our nation. Black History Month is a time to recognize and appreciate the diversity which makes our country great,” stated Perlmutter.
