House of Representatives Assemble on Capitol Hill

I, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.

With these words, the Members of the 110th Congress took the oath of office today – marking 218 years of uninterrupted elected national government under the U.S. Constitution.

The House of Representatives proceeded to elect its officers:

• Speaker – Hon. Nancy Pelosi (California)
• Majority Leader – Hon. Steny Hoyer (Maryland)
• Republican Leader – Hon. John Boehner (Ohio)
• Majority Whip – Hon. James E. Clyburn (South Carolina)
• Republican Whip – Hon. Roy Blunt (Missouri)
• Clerk – Hon. Karen Lehman Haas
• Sergeant at Arms – Hon. Wilson S. Livingood
• Chief Administrative Officer – Hon. James M. Eagan, III
• Chaplain – Hon. Daniel P. Coughlin
