Rep. Perlmutter Votes for Reinvestment in American Infrastructure Priorities

Perlmutter Amendment Invests $3 Billion More for Transit Priorities

January 28, 2009

Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) voted with a majority of his colleagues in the House of Representatives to approve a historic reinvestment plan to jumpstart our economy, put millions of Americans back to work, and provide much needed tax relief to small businesses and hard working Americans in the middle who are feeling the squeeze of the recent economic downturn.

Perlmutter stated, “Over the last year, our nation has slipped further into a serious economic downturn. These are tough times for most of us. Many Americans are losing their jobs and their savings; businesses are failing and homes are being foreclosed. Today, Congress took a bold step to try to stabilize our economy by passing a historic bill providing tax relief to nearly every working American, creating or saving more than three million jobs, and laying the foundation for long-term economic growth in energy, transportation, technology and healthcare. This is a step in the right direction to putting our country’s economy back on track.”

Included within H.R. 1, the American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Plan, is an amendment Perlmutter co-sponsored with Rep. Jerrold Nadler, investing an additional $3 billion for transit priorities bringing total transit funding in the bill to $12 billion.

“Transit priorities are critical to our nation’s economic recovery. Maintenance of and new transit priorities will create jobs, move people efficiently to their jobs, and help our climate,” stated Perlmutter. “With this additional capital, under existing transit funding formulas RTD in Colorado is eligible to receive a significant increase.”
