Perlmutter Announces Firefighter Grant for BrightonJanuary 5, 2009 U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07), is pleased to announce the Greater Brighton Fire Protection District will receive $325,140 as part of the FY 2008 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant program. The SAFER grant is part of the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program. “As Brighton and Adams County continue to grow and attract more business it is important to add more firefighters and first responders. This SAFER grant will allow the Greater Brighton Fire Protection District to hire additional staff. More firefighters mean safer communities. This grant money is vital for hiring new personnel and providing advanced training while fully equipping our first responders and firefighters,” stated Perlmutter. The grants enable local fire departments and emergency medical service organizations to purchase or receive training, conduct first responder health and safety programs, and buy needed equipment. Nationally, the FY 2008 AFG awards will provide approximately $750 million to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations throughout the country. The AFG is administered cooperatively by two FEMA components: the National Preparedness Directorate and the United States Fire Administration. The full list of past and current recipients and additional AFG program information is posted on the AFG website at (www.firegrantsupport.com). ### |
