Lakewood, Colo. - On February 5th, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) announced a civil penalty to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for two violations associated with staffing and training requirements at its research reactor facility at the Denver Federal Center in Lakewood, Colo. In response, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) issued the following statement:

“While not a safety issue, this is a serious reporting and personnel issue. Leadership at USGS acted quickly to remedy the situation and I have been assured that strict safety and precautionary measures are in place going forward. I plan to monitor this issue closely.”
