Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) issued the following statement today after President Trump signed an executive order to stop the practice of separating immigrant families at the U.S.-Mexico border:

"This disastrous situation was of President Trump’s own making. But, I’m glad he finally listened to Democrats and signed the executive order where children will no longer be separated from their family at the border, and I hope DHS works swiftly to reunite the over 2,000 children separated from their parents over the last two months.  Despite days of lies and misdirection, it is clear President Trump had the authority to stop these inhumane practices all along.  However, the Trump Administration’s “zero-tolerance” policy remains in effect, and the Administration must be held accountable for their actions and treatment of all people.  I stand ready to work on a comprehensive immigration package in Congress, but I will not support using children or DACA recipients as a bargaining chip for a border wall or other harmful policies."
