Yesterday, U.S. Reps. Mark Udall (D-Eldorado Springs) and Ed Perlmutter (D-Golden) sent a letter to U.S. Dept. of Labor Secretary Elaine Chao asking her to respond to the recent Rocky Mountain News three-part series concerning the claims for benefits of former Rocky Flats’ workers and their families.

As highlighted in the articles, there is a clear pattern of indifference by the Dept. of Labor concerning the plight of these workers to obtain the benefits to which they are owed for the physical harms they experienced from working at the Rocky Flats facility. The articles also reported officials from the Labor Department repeatedly failed to respond to requests for information or comments.

In the letter (See attached), Udall and Perlmutter said “Federal agencies are established to serve the taxpayer and be accountable to them for decisions regarding programs within an agency’s responsibility. It is simply not acceptable to not respond to requests to explain decisions made regarding this program.”

The Congressmen are requesting a prompt response from Sec. Chao to the requests from the Rocky Mountain News.
