Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) released the following statement after President Trump announced the federal government would end cost-sharing reduction payments to health insurers:

"President Trump continues to undermine the Affordable Care Act and his actions only serve to harm hardworking people who rely on affordable, high-quality health coverage. Rather than sabotaging the existing law, the President – along with Democrats and Republicans – need to work to improve the Affordable Care Act so it can continue to provide accessible and affordable healthcare for millions of Americans.”

Perlmutter is open to several changes to improve the Affordable Care Act, including:

·         Increasing transparency and accountability in the healthcare market by requiring all medical providers, including insurance and drug companies, to publicly disclose costs for all products, services and procedures

·         Addressing the high cost of prescription drugs

·         Guaranteed cost-sharing payments to reduce out-of-pocket costs

·         Dedicated reinsurance funds to keep premium costs down

·         Increased insurance coverage through outreach and enforcement

·         Additional flexibility to create more affordable insurance options while protecting consumers and expanding enrollment

·         Marketplace improvements and technical changes
