Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) released the following statement on the formation on the Commission on Election Integrity.
"Free and fair elections are essential to a functioning democracy. Our elections should always be conducted with the highest integrity and without influence from any outside interference. The Commission on Election Integrity, set for by the Trump Administration is nothing more than a distraction from what the intelligence community said is an unprecedented intrusion in our elections by Russia to undermine our democracy.
I find the Commission’s request baseless, narrow and undermining democratic principles. This request amounts to nothing more than voter intimidation and risks exposing Colorado voter’s privacy for no legitimate purpose.
Claims of widespread voter fraud are rare and have been widely debunked by Secretaries of State including Colorado’s Wayne Williams. Colorado conducts fair and secure elections, and suggesting otherwise risks placing our faith and trust in democracy at risk."
