Perlmutter Recognized as 2017 Legislator of the Year by South West Transit Association
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) was awarded the 2017 Legislator of the Year award by the South West Transit Association (SWTA). The Colorado Association of Transit Agencies (CASTA), in conjunction with the Regional Transportation District (RTD), nominated Perlmutter for his years of support of transit projects in order to improve mobility in Colorado and the 7th Congressional District. Officials from CASTA and RTD were in Washington D.C. in March to present the award while attending the American Public Transportation Association Legislative Conference.
"Congressman Perlmutter is not a flashy legislator that comes in and does one signature piece of legislation and then is never heard from again. He supports transit year after year and understands the importance of agencies like RTD and also Lakewood Rides, the Seniors Resource Center, and rural transit systems. He cares less about mode and method and more about moving people,” said Elena Wilken, Executive Director of CASTA.
“I am honored to be recognized by the South West Transit Association with this award,” said Rep. Perlmutter. “My constituents are always looking for more efficient ways to travel to and from work and throughout the metro area. I will continue working to ensure we have strong transit choices in our transportation system so Coloradans can move more freely across the state.”
Rep. Perlmutter has been a strong proponent of transit projects in Colorado through his time in Congress. Perlmutter helped secure federal funding for construction of RTD’s West Line as well as federal funds as a part of RTD’s Eagle Public Private Partnership to construct the A, B, and G Lines. In addition, Perlmutter began hosting “Commuting with your Congressman” events in 2015 and 2016 to visit with constituents at rail stations or on board the West Line on their way to work.
