Washington, D.C. –  U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) released the following statement after President Trump delivered his first address to a Joint Session of Congress:

“Since taking office, President Trump and his Administration have been focused on everything but the economy. Their initial unrealistic and harmful policies have created confusion and uncertainty. Many questions remain as to the direction the President intends to steer our country.

“Yet I remain focused on building economic opportunity for Coloradans. This means fighting for good paying jobs with increasing incomes, reducing the student loan burden, making housing more affordable, and ensuring hardworking families have the opportunity to thrive.

"I believe we can find common ground with the White House and Congress on issues like infrastructure, tax reform, aerospace, and job creation. But I will continue to hold the Administration accountable when their policies harm Colorado’s economy or infringe on the freedoms and values Coloradans cherish.

"This last month has shown our democracy can be fragile and we all need to safeguard it at every level. As Coloradans and as Americans, we all have a responsibility to protect the liberty, equality and opportunity we enjoy."
