District Office is the First Located in a LEED-EB Building with Rooftop Photovoltaic Panels

January 14, 2008

Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) announced that his District Office resides in a LEED-EB registered building (Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design-Existing Building) with a rooftop 30 kW Photovoltaic (PV) system (solar panels). His District Office is the only one in the nation to be located in a LEED registered building with on-site renewable energy features.

The announcement is part of Perlmutter’s Green Office Initiative, which is an ongoing collaboration between public policy, research institutions and the business community to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency.

"I launched my Green Office Initiative last May, and this Green Opening reception and photovoltaic system builds on that success. I am proud to have the only Congressional office in the country in a LEED registered building with a renewable energy feature on the roof. Everyone must take responsibility to help the environment. The buildings we work and live in require a lot of energy and have a large carbon footprint. Buildings like the Golden Hill Office Centre are a prime example of how promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency also makes good business sense," stated Perlmutter.

Propp Realty, The RMH Group, Namaste Solar Electric and Green Clean Pros Inc. were all instrumental in the Golden Hill Office Centre becoming LEED registered and implementing the roof top photovoltaic system.

"Being LEED registered and having the photovoltaic panels definitely sets this building apart from the rest. Not only are these features a quality long-term investment but it benefits the environment," stated Daryll Propp, owner of Propp Realty and the Golden Hill Office Centre.

"The RMH Group is proud to have designed the photovoltaic system for Golden Hill Office Centre and managed the LEED-EB rating of the building. Golden Hill is an excellent example of how America can reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and show our commitment to environmental stewardship. I want to thank everyone on this team for their hard work and support in making this a reality," stated Bill Green, president of The RMH Group.

"This on-site solar energy project represents a critical step toward our ‘New Energy Economy’ in the State of Colorado," said Stephen Irvin, co-owner of Namaste Solar. "Solar energy systems act as a hedge against rising utility costs, and contribute to the bright and healthy future of our families."

"We are thrilled to have participated in the development of Golden Hill’s earth friendly endeavors, and look forward to providing quality Green Clean Pros services and an eco-friendly restoration of surfaces to Colorado in the future. Green Clean Pros & it restoration service has provided the building with a full-scale roofing makeover; rehabbing a once degraded surface," stated Michael S. Richardson the President/CEO of Green Clean Pros Inc.

Key energy efficiency and renewable energy features of the Golden Hill Office Centre include:

  • 30 kW Photovoltaic (PV) system projected to meet up to 2% of the building’s electricity.
  • Elastomeric reflective roof enhancement utilized instead of replacing and discarding old roof materials in a landfill. Reflective seal also cools the roof and helps with the efficiency of the PV panels.
  • Energy Star Rating of 94 out of a possible 99.
  • 40% of total building energy purchased is from renewable energy sources.
  • Green cleaning services and occupant recycling provided for all tenants with almost 70% of the building waste or 12.99 tons being recycled for the month of December alone.
