Lakewood, Colo. – On August 4, 2016, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) celebrated the fourth annual Startup Day Across America by interviewing two entrepreneurs in his family: his dad and his daughter

“My dad worked for my grandfather when he started his construction company and then started his own company in the 1940s,” said Perlmutter. “My daughter, Abby, recently started her own business and blog named Denver Darling. While their businesses are quite different, they share similar experiences and the same entrepreneurial spirit.”

New businesses create two million jobs a year and are a critical part of the economy. According to Startup America, 27% of startups nationwide are owned by women and 33% are owned by minorities. These startup companies are involved in a variety of industries including technology, retail, healthcare, entertainment, consulting, and education.

Startup Day Across America also provides local entrepreneurs with an opportunity to educate their elected officials about the challenges they are facing and discuss how federal policy can support their efforts to test new ideas, create new products, and grow their businesses.

“Whether it’s a family member or a local small business in the community, it’s important to hear directly from entrepreneurs and small business owners about the challenges and opportunities they face,” continued Perlmutter.

As a longtime advocate for micro and small businesses, Rep. Perlmutter has been involved in the JOBS Act, crowdfunding and the Export-Import Bank which helps small businesses in the export to overseas markets.  Rep. Perlmutter also helped establish the new USPTO satellite office in Denver which helps small businesses and entrepreneurs obtain patents for new products.
