Congressman Perlmutter Joins Seniors’ Resource Center in Celebrating Social Security/Medicare Anniversaries
On Monday, August 24th, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) joined the Seniors’ Resource Center (SRC) in celebrating the 80th Anniversary of Social Security and the 50th Anniversary of Medicare. Sponsored by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, these anniversaries commemorate decades of seniors and families having the ability to see a doctor, fill a prescription and stay out of poverty. Both programs significantly help to prevent poverty and promote greater access to health care for people 65 years of age or older and individuals with disabilities.
“As part of these important milestones for Social Security and Medicare, it’s important to reflect on the significant impact these programs have had on millions of Americans,” said Congressman Perlmutter. He added, “In the 7th Congressional district today, more than 200,000 Coloradans get access to health coverage through Medicare and Medicaid. In addition, Social Security is a vital program for our nation’s aging baby boomers and for generations to come. I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues in Congress to strengthen and improve these necessary programs for future generations.”
John Zabawa, President and CEO of SRC, stated “Seniors’ Resource Center is on the front lines of ensuring that our aging population are able to access these programs and we are delighted to celebrate their impact.” He added, “Without Social Security and Medicare we would be unable to help many seniors maintain independence, dignity and quality of life.”
