Perlmutter Honored as a Friend of the National Parks
Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) received the Friend of the National Parks Award for his dedication to protecting and enhancing America’s national parks. The award, presented by the nonpartisan National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), is to recognize members of Congress during the 113th Congress who upheld the standards and integrity of the National Park System.
“National parks are the crown jewels of our country, and we must work to maintain and protect these national treasures,” said Perlmutter. “I’m proud to support and protect America’s national parks.”
The NPCA’s Friend of the National Parks Award was established in 1999 to track and recognize congressional members’ votes on significant park issues. This year, NPCA tracked five national park-related votes in the House of Representatives. To receive the award, representatives’ voting records needed to demonstrate strong support of national parks on at least three scored bills. Rep. Perlmutter supported national parks on all five scored bills.
“My district is located in the heart of Colorado and has easy access to many national parks in our state,” continued Perlmutter. “My constituents treasure their ability to enjoy the outdoors and we must protect these natural wonders so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.”
Rep. Perlmutter has been recognized with the Friend of the National Parks Award for the 111th, 112th, and 113th Congress. The Friend of the National Parks Award was not given out for the 110th Congress.
Since 1919, NPCA has been working to protect and preserve our nation’s natural, historical, and cultural heritage for future generations.
