Statement on Budget Vote
U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) released the folllowing statement after voting on the Republican budget in the U.S. House of Representatives:
"The Democratic budget is a roadmap to a bright and prosperous future for Colorado’s middle class families. We have made too much progress to turn back now with 12 million new private-sector jobs created over the last 60 months and the lowest unemployment rate in six years. Our vision for the country represents shared values that boosts paychecks for working families, creates new job opportunities, supports comprehensive immigration reform, and invests in infrastructure, education, research & development and clean energy.”
“In contrast, the GOP’s harmful budget hurts Coloradans including hardworking families, children and seniors. Make no mistake, the GOP’s budget is a repeat of the same irresponsible, unworkable, and unrealistic policies that led us to exploding deficits and debts to begin with. The House Republicans budget is a reflection of misguided policies undermining the progress we’ve made rather than focusing on building a stronger and more secure middle class with good-paying jobs, affordable higher education and a secure retirement. The GOP budget includes slush funds, lacks transparency and relies on budget and accounting gimmicks.”
“With Colorado’s unemployment rate at 4.2%, our economy is growing stronger every day. That is why I support a budget that continues this positive momentum and builds a bright future for Colorado and our nation."
