As the Colorado Rockies prepare to face the Boston Red Sox in the first game of the World Series, Colorado’s congressional members Mark Udall (D-Eldorado Springs), John Salazar (D-Manassa), Ed Perlmutter (D-Golden), and Diana DeGette (D-Denver) have placed a friendly wager with Massachusetts Congressmen Edward Markey, Stephen Lynch, Michael Capuano and Bill Delahunt on the outcome of the fall classic. If the Red Soxs win the World Series, Massachusetts members will receive Colorado green chile, a case of Coors, and Salazar All Natural Beef steaks. If the Rockies win, the Colorado members will receive lobster and clam chowder from Legal Seafood, a case of Sam Adams beer, and a Boston cream pie.
"I am very excited for the Colorado Rockies to play the Boston Red Sox in Colorado's first ever appearance in the World Series. It is an honor to play against such a storied franchise with such passionate fans. With the Rockies winning 21 of their last 22 games and the Red Sox winning three in a row, there is no doubt this will be an exciting series. I am confident my Colorado colleagues and I will enjoy some of Boston's finest fare when the Rockies bring a World Series Championship to Colorado. Go Rox!" said Perlmutter.
"It is an honor to be playing one of baseball's most legendary franchises. But there is a storm brewing in the Colorado Rockies and it is about to hit Boston. As legendary as they are, the Sox fans are no match for the Rox fans!" said Udall.
"All of Colorado is pulling for the Rockies right now as they prepare for their first World Series in franchise history. Boston is a good team, but Colorado is on a historical run and I am confident the Rockies will be champs when all is said and done," said Salazar.
"Riding into the World Series on an undefeated championship streak, the Rockies are poised to wear out the Sox," said DeGette. "The taste of fresh lobster from Boston will certainly top off a thrilling season for the Rocky Mountain West ending with the Colorado Rockies winning the World Series. Go Rockies!"
