Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter joined a majority in the House of Representatives in support of a plan to make toys safer and protect consumers. The Consumer Product Safety Modernization Act was unanimously approved by a vote of 407-0.
Additionally today, Perlmutter announced the introduction of his new legislation, the Toy Origin for Toddler Safety (T.O.T.S) Act.
The T.O.T.S Act requires manufacturers of toys and consumer products to provide information on their website relating to where the product was manufactured or assembled. The bill number for the T.O.T.S Act is HR 4516.
“This Christmas, parents shouldn’t have to worry about toxic toys under the tree,” said Perlmutter. “My T.O.T.S legislation and the legislation voted on by the House today responds to the toy safety crisis, giving parents the tools they need to make informed, safe decisions about the toys they buy for their kids. The bill the House passed today creates the toughest lead standard in the world for children’s products and helps ensure consumers know when products are recalled.”
