KUSA - In a huge victory for House Republicans, the U.S. House passed a bill that would repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act Thursday by a 217 to 213 vote. Twenty Republicans voted no on the bill, as did all of the Democrats. Rep. Mike Coffman -- notably Colorado's only yes on the GOP's failed iteration of the ACA repeal -- was one of those votes. Republican Reps. Ken Buck, Scott Tipton and Doug Lamborn all voted yes. Colorado congressmen began to release statements about the vote Thursday... Read more

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) issued the following statement after House Republicans withdrew their legislation to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA) from the House floor for a vote: “This is a good day for the thousands of Coloradans and millions of Americans who were at risk of losing affordable healthcare coverage under the Republicans’ disastrous healthcare plan. Republicans have spent the last seven years criticizing and undermining the ACA, and now it is ... Read more

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump can’t solely blame Colorado for the failure of Republicans on Friday to pass — or even try to pass — an overhaul of the Affordable Care Act. But the state’s reaction to the bill is indicative of why the proposal collapsed one day after Trump threatened lawmakers with a do-or-die ultimatum to either pass it or live with the current health care law, better known as Obamacare. Only one of Colorado’s four House Republicans was on-the-record supporting the bill and... Read more

Republicans in Congress said almost from the moment the Affordable Care Act was signed into law that repealing and replacing it was one of their top priorities. Seven years later, now in control of the House, Senate and White House, their first attempt at repealing what’s known as Obamacare has failed. The decision by House Republicans not to bring their overhaul bill up for a vote today got mixed reaction from Colorado’s delegation. Republican Rep. Mike Coffman was the bill’s strongest Colorado... The Congressional Budget Office’s analysis of the Republican-proposed alternative to the Affordable Care Act estimates that 24 million Americans will lose healthcare coverage by 2026 under the new plan. That number is significantly higher than many experts predicted last week, and undercuts President Donald Trump’s repeated promises that the Republican healthcare plan will provide “insurance for everybody.” The CBO analysis, which was released today, expects 14 million additional people to be un... WASHINGTON — Three days after Republicans introduced their plan to re-do the Affordable Care Act, reaction among members of Colorado’s congressional delegation generally has split along partisan lines — though there’s been a greater range of responses from its GOP lawmakers. U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Cortez, has said little this week about his opinion of the Republican healthcare plan. But in a telephone town hall meeting on Wednesday, he raised questions about the cost of expanding Medicaid — a... Read more

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) issued the following statement today regarding the American Health Care Act, the Republican plan to replace the Affordable Care Act: “Millions of people have healthcare coverage due to the Affordable Care Act, including hundreds of thousands in Colorado. While I’m open to improving the law, I will fight against any effort to roll back the progress we’ve already made. Early estimates show the current Republican replacement plan could leave 10 mil... What would you like to ask your Congressperson? That’s the question we presented to 5280 readers on social media in December. We fielded dozens of questions on topics that matter to Coloradans before selecting a few to take to our local legislators. Voters re-elected every incumbent Representative in 2016, keeping our mix of three Democrats, who primarily represent the Denver-Boulder metro area, and four Republicans who represent Colorado Springs, the Aurora suburbs, and rural communities on the... Since its passage almost seven years ago, Republicans have campaigned on the promise of repealing the Affordable Care Act. But now in power in Washington and the Colorado Senate, GOP lawmakers are realizing the challenge of fulfilling that pledge, as Democrats and like-minded activists have begun a counterattack to protect President Barack Obama’s signature law. The anti-repeal campaign has included several rallies in Colorado, with much of the pressure aimed at U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman, an Aurora... Read more

DENVER -- Hundreds of people showed up at a rally Sunday in an effort to stop the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. Rep. Diana DeGette hosted the rally, along with colleagues in the federal and state legislatures and Colorado experts in health care. Organizers said there were more than 280 inside the meeting and more than 200 others listening on a speaker set up outside.
