Project description:  The Children’s Hospital (TCH) plans to deploy its Electronic Health Record (Epic) to affiliated independent and community-based physicians.  The Children's Hospital is uniquely positioned as a model for deploying a community based Electronic Health Record as Children’s is the first free standing pediatric hospital within the United States to achieve a completely integrated electronic medical record.

Use of Taxpayer Dollars:  This is a wise use of taxpayer dollars because of the value to patients and the community– a comprehensive shared electronic health record would substantially improve provider communication, improve patient care quality, and would reduce health care costs by eliminating duplicative testing.

Project description:  This funding request is for medical supplies and equipment for the Critical Incident Theater, which teaches innovation and efficiencies that can be gained in training nursing and other health professionals in joint-use facilities where equipment and faculty expertise are shared with EMS and other public service faculty members and staff.

Use of Taxpayer Dollars:  This is a wise use of taxpayer dollars because the training at CCA will be used throughout Colorado to enhance emergency medical techniques and save lives.

Recipient:  Jefferson County, Colorado (County of)

Project description:  These funds would be used to develop a pre-service training program academy for new caseworkers hired in Jefferson County to improve our response and assessment of reports of child abuse/neglect.  The goal is to improve outcomes for children and families, prevent re-abuse and re-entry into foster care which are measurements on the federal Child and Family Services Review.

Use of Taxpayer Dollars:  This is a wise use of taxpayer dollars because it will enhance the ability of social workers to detect case of child abuse. Protecting the health and well being of young children is always a wise investment.

Recipient:  Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome

Amount requested: $3,500,000
Project description:  The funds would go to the Human Genomic Variation Facility (HGV) for the Linda Crnic Institute and allow genetic variation between individuals to be measured with unprecedented detail, the results determining which human genes on chromosome 21 are optimal drug targets for the treatment of Down syndrome.  In terms of targeting solutions to difficult genetic conditions, HGV is arguably the most promising biomedical research in science today, due in part to the recent discovery that humans vary far more at the genetic level than was previously thought. 

Use of Taxpayer Dollars:  This is a wise use of the taxpayer dollars because the Linda Crnic Institute is at the forefront of Down syndrome research.  Their research could potentially alleviate millions of Down syndrome cases in the future.

Project description:  Funding for this project would support capital funding necessary for start-up and roll-out of this new crisis response (or triage) healthcare system for Metro Denver.  This request would support the Triage Project's three cornerstone activities: 1) the build-out of the second Triage Project facility, 2) to hire and train staff for roughly 60,000 calls received annually at the Crisis Call Centers, and 3) to provide for Health Information Technology exchange between hospitals, clinics, care centers, substance abuse centers, and others.

Use of Taxpayer Dollars:  This is a wise use of the taxpayer dollars because this triage center will provide services to residents, hospitals and health institutions throughout Metro Denver and improve access and quality of healthcare.

Project description:  The CELL is a 501c3 developing an educational platform to deliver the center's content, and related response and preparedness programs to Denver community groups, businesses, and students in conjunction with federal, state, and local law enforcement, public safety officials, and local secondary education and university officials.  With the interactive exhibit at its core, the goal is for The CELL to ultimately become a regional and national center for these types of important educational and outreach programs.

Use of Taxpayer Dollars:  This is a wise use of taxpayer dollars because it will educate the greater community about the philosophical and social trends which foster terrorism, the tactics they use, and preventative measure which can be taken to secure our nation.
