Lakewood, Colorado—Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-CO) released the following statement following news that Vestas American Wind Technology, Inc., cut 18% of its Colorado workforce this week. Since the beginning of 2012, Vestas’s Colorado operations has gone from 1700 to 1200. In a Vestas statement, the company states the failure of Congress to extend the wind production tax credit as a key factor in the decision.
Said Perlmutter: “I am deeply concerned regarding the news that another 18% of Vestas workers in Colorado are going to lose their jobs this week. Tea Party Republican inaction in Congress is responsible. They obstructed all efforts to promote an “all of the above” energy portfolio which includes wind energy, and 500 Colorado families are now feeling the impact. I have spoken repeatedly about the need to extend this tax credit which helps electric utilities produce wind power. It is clean and it is the future of energy production. Until the Tea Party took over this has always been a simple, noncontroversial tax credit.”
