Recipient: Colorado School of Mines
Address: 1500 Illinois St. Golden, CO 80401
Amount requested: $2,000,000
Project description: The requested funds will allow CSM to develop robust fuel-cell systems operating on syngas fuel streams. Because these are un-refined bio-fuel streams, CSM will develop materials and architectures that address the properties of such un-refined streams. Much of the understanding gained in syngas fuel-cell research will also be applicable in the design of solid-oxide fuel cells operating on fossil fuels, such as coal.
Use of Taxpayer Dollars: This is a wise use of taxpayer dollars because CSM has the best scientific minds in Colorado, and developing green energy technology for the military will reduce cost for the Defense Department and have broader applications in the economy.
