Project description: Jefferson County is requesting federal funding for this community education program designed to protect citizens of Jefferson County, particularly our older, and often more vulnerable, adults with information and assistance that may deter them from becoming a victim of economic crime, especially identity theft and to keep updated protective information available to senior service providers.
Use of Taxpayer Dollars: It is a wise use of taxpayer dollars because preventing identity theft within the senior community will protect many among us from a growing threat and reduce law enforcement and judicial costs which may arise otherwise.
Recipient: Jefferson County, Colorado (County of)
Address: 100 Jefferson County Pkwy. Golden, CO 80419
Amount requested: $565,968
Project description: The funding will support ongoing needs for overtime and equipment for Methamphetamine mitigation. The continuum of equipment needs range from disposable hazard gear replacement to outfitting a Methamphetamine-Hazardous Materials Response Vehicle. The current vehicle is a 1996 GMC inherited from the Lakewood Police Department when they had no more use for it. Although the Sheriff’s Office can provide funds to purchase a new vehicle, outfitting the van with the necessary equipment requires additional funding.
Use of Taxpayer Dollars: This is a wise use of taxpayer dollars because the hazards of methamphetamine production to residents, neighbors, and law enforcement requires substantial equipment otherwise unavailable through local funds.
Recipient: Lakewood, Colorado (City of)
Address: 445 S. Allison Pkwy. Lakewood, CO 80228
Amount requested: $47,250
Project description: The goal of the Substance Abuse Treatment for Youth Offenders program is to reduce substance abuse and recidivism for the juvenile offenders that receive court-ordered substance abuse treatment as a part of the adjudication process each year. A particular emphasis of the program is to focus on those youth that do not complete court-ordered treatment due to a lack of family financial resources.
Use of Taxpayer Dollars: This is a wise use of taxpayer dollars because reducing recidivism among youth offenders will protect communities from potential costs incurred regarding criminal activity later on.
